OptiMSM® is a premium form of Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), an organic sulfur compound and methyl groups, which supports healthy joints and protects cartilage. (1)  MSM occurs naturally in a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains and animals.  Sulfur is thought to help in the cross linking of proteoglycans and collagen, which are the building blocks of joint cartilage, contributing to MSM’s beneficial effect on joints.  In a clinical study, participants took 3 grams of methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) twice daily for twelve weeks, showed improved function and mobility. (2)

By fortifying and protecting cartilage and other connective tissue, OptiMSM® likewise supports healthy joints and a normal range of motion.  Several clinical studies have shown that MSM decreases pain and improves performance in the physical function of daily living activities.(2) These positive effects are easily translated to the performance of an athlete, allowing their bodies to move with ease and comfort.

Furthermore, OptiMSM® exhibits protective antioxidant effects to the body as whole, particularly for athletes and those exercising who consume more oxygen.  Increased oxygen use contributes to increased oxidative stress, the production of free radicals, harmful molecules that can cause cellular damage in their search for a missing electron.  MSM has (been shown) to reduce indicators of cellular damage in multiple human and animal studies.  A marker of lipid (the unit of a cell’s outer membrane) damage , MDA (Malondialdehye) saw decreases in those given a MSM treatment for 10 days before a running event versus placebo.(3)  Markers of muscle damage, CK(creatine kinase) and LDH (lactase dehyrdogenase) were also reduced in another study where participants were administered MSM prior to an acute bout of exercise.(4)  Animals studies, in mice and horses, have demonstrated that MSM also increases glutathione, a critical intracellular antioxidant which actually recycles other antioxidants.(1,5)  With oxidative stress at bay, OptiMSM allows for the proper tissue repair and regeneration necessary for athletes in their recovery phase.

More Information: Skin Support

The dermis within the skin contains the structural elements of the skin; the connective tissue. Collagen and Elastin gives the skin its strength, support and elasticity.(2) Structural deterioration occurs in the skin’s connective tissue due to progressive cross linkage of protein within collagen fibers. The increased cross-linking can cause stiffening and folding within the tissue. (1) When collagen deteriorates, wrinkles are formed. Disulfide bonds help maintain strong collagen and can protect against degenerative cross linking.

OptiMSM® is a premium form of bioavailable Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM),which is an organic compound that contains sulfur. MSM occurs naturally in a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains and animals. OptiMSM® is 34% sulfur, that may help in the cross linking of proteoglycans and collagen, which makes up the structural framework in skin tissue. MSM maintains disulfide bonds that hold the collagen strands, maintaining strong, healthy dermal functioning. Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) is a building block of keratin, the main component of hair and nails.

OptiMSM® can also protect the skin from UV induced oxidative stress.

I have been pleasantly surprised with this product, it helps with the knee pain I have been experiencing after running, and I have seen an improvement in general joint mobility. I have also noticed a big difference in my hair and nails growing quicker and not breaking-my hairdresser actually noticed my hair was thicker! My skin also looks better and smoother ( I have been taking VERISOL as well). Overall I am very happy with this product.
